On the last day of his mandate in Kosovo, the head of the EU Office, Tomas Szunyog, visited the artistic mural in Prizren supported by the European Union, whereupon he met the artists who created this artistic work.
Szunyog expressed his happiness for the inauguration of this mural, which according to him, has beautified the city of many ethnicities and cultures, Prizren.
"I am happy to be here today, at the same time this coincides with my last working day of the mandate in Kosovo, so I am happy to be in Prizren. I am very happy to be able to inaugurate the mural, which has been supported by the European Union. Last year we also had a mural, which we financed in Pristina. We have decided to make Prizren more beautiful as well. We are very happy to be able to do so. Also, the mural contains loyal along with colors, flowers and representations that are here. We are very happy that we are able to see that Prizren supports European ideas and that at the same time we are able to beautify this city of many ethnicities, of many cultures even more", said Szunyog.
Meanwhile, the mayor of the Municipality of Prizren, Shaqir Totaj, said that it is very important to use the power of art to promote the city.
"It is very important to use the power of art to promote the city and in this case it is seen that some good work has been done. We have to thank the donors, but also the artists who did this, because they decorated this whole part and the rest that remained undecorated will be financed by the municipality... All these works remain here in Prizren, they decorate our city and attract more visitors. The more we have beautiful views in the city, it is more interesting, more attractive, because the city of Prizren is promoted... The municipality will join in supporting these activities, because we consider it very important to use this opportunity that we have ", emphasized Totaj.
One of the artists who participated in the creation of the mural, the painter Hasan Thaqi, said that the works lasted about a month and a half and that the dimensions are 42 meters long and 1 meter and 80 centimeters high.
"We worked on this mural over a period of one and a half months with two other colleagues, Arbnor and Gentiana... The European community wanted to tear down some murals, because in Pristina recently many murals have been created and other cities have been left behind in this direction and have expressed the desire that in Prizren this part urgently needed a mural... The dimension of this mural is 42 meters with a height of 1.80... The citizens have received it very well even during the painting, but even now a very big difference can be noticed big... In this composition, you can see the ancient sculpture, because Prizren is an ancient city and has a cultural heritage", said Thaqi.
The mural created in a protected area of Prizren's cultural heritage is part of the EU's ongoing efforts to improve urban spaces through artistic interventions.
