The city of one on one windows with its architectural beauty but also with its numerous cultural monuments has marked a 'boom' of local and foreign tourists during the first 6 months of this year.

In the first 3 months of the year, as Silvi Merdani, Director of Tourism and Activities in Albania pointed out, Berat had 50 thousand visitors.

While in 6 months, January-June, there was an increased flow of tourists in the city of Berat, compared to other years.

"In the period January-June, the city of Berat was visited by more than 400 local and foreign visitors, a figure that is expected to double by the end of this year", Merdani said today for ATSH, reports KosovaPress.

Merdani says that in addition to visits to the historical castle and the Mangalem and Goricë museum districts, tourists this year are also oriented towards adventure sports and wine tasting.

According to her, Berat is regarded as the center of good wine cellars and this year's promotional festival seems to have had an effect.

"This year tasting in wineries was very popular. According to our analysis, the Summer Festival that crosses the borders of Albania probably had an impact. Another point that makes us proud is the development of adventure sports. This year, tourists prefer kayak tours in the Qafë Dardha lake, cooking classes in some of the restaurants, canoeing and any other type of activity that is more than material, but transmits the culture", said Merdani.

Foreign tourists are mainly from the Netherlands, France, Belgium, Italy, Spain, etc.

Adventure tourism, adds Merdani, goes parallel in historical Berat with exploratory tourism of a thousand-year-old existence and culture, and this is an important point of this season.

Berat has a number of tourist spots that arouse the interest of tourists, some of which are the Historical Center of the city, the Castle, Gorica Mangalemi, which have UNESCO assets, the Onufri Iconographic Museum, the Medieval Center, the Byzantine cult objects and the old Mosques of the Ottoman period.

In recent years, tourists have also shown interest in eco-tourism attractions, the tourist villages of Roshnik, Sinjë, Drobonik, wineries, rafting activities on the Osum River, climbing Mount Tomori, parachuting from Mount Shpirag, canoeing in the lakes of Tomori, hiking with mountain bikes in the surroundings of Berat, visiting the Osum Canyons, participating in gastronomy tours in agribusinesses in tourist villages, etc.
