Although it has been more than 1 month since the high representative of the EU, Josep Borell, submitted to the European Council the report on the lifting of the measures against Kosovo, there is still no decision of the member countries on this issue. In the EU, they say that the discussions in the Council are continuing, while they do not give any deadline for when a decision will be made. On the other hand, the government of Kosovo says that the lifting of the measures is being misused and dragged on unnecessarily by some EU member states. According to them, since the fulfillment of the conditions has been established, there is no need for a gradual removal, let alone for their maintenance, but the complete and one-time removal of the measures is needed.

In a written response to KosovaPress, an EU spokesperson announced that discussions in the Council are continuing regarding the report recommending the removal of punitive measures against Kosovo, but did not indicate when there will be a final decision.

However, Klisman Kadiu, media adviser to the deputy prime minister for European integration, Besnik Bislimi, is asking for immediate removal of the measures.

He adds that the warnings about the opening of the Ibrit bridge have nothing to do with the delay in lifting the measures.

According to him, the opening of the Ibri bridge is foreseen in the Brussels agreements and that it would be absurd to maintain the measures or impose them on Kosovo, for the implementation of an agreement reached within the dialogue in Brussels.

"The opening of the bridge has nothing to do with the measures. It is foreseen in the Brussels agreements. In such an alluded case, it would be absurd to maintain measures or impose them on Kosovo, for the implementation of an agreement reached within the dialogue in Brussels", Kadiu declares.

On the other hand, the deputy of PDK, Ariana Musliu-Shoshi, says that the measures should be removed, but says that the Government of Kosovo is to blame for their implementation.

Meanwhile, the professor of international relations, Afrim Hoti, says that despite the delays, the European Council will quickly find a consensus for the removal of measures against Kosovo.

The measures against Kosovo were placed after the tensions in the northern part of Kosovo at the time when the elected Albanian mayors in the four municipalities in the north were sent with the support of the Kosovo police to their offices.
