Four trains from London to Paris have been canceled today, affecting thousands of passengers, and the disruption is expected to last until Monday. Travelers have been advised to postpone their journeys whenever possible.

Only a few seats were available to book on the remaining Eurostar routes from London to Paris on Saturday, while tickets for the night buses, which arrived in the French capital on Sunday morning, were selling for up to £197 through Flixbus.

The disruption comes as the 2024 Paris Olympics begin and millions are expected to go on summer holidays. Among those affected on Friday was Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who was due to travel by Eurostar to the opening ceremony of the Games but flew to Paris instead.

French rail company SNCF said a series of incidents overnight on Friday had affected journeys to and from London, Belgium and the west, north and east of France. French Prime Minister Gabriel Attal said the vandals were strategically targeting the main roads into Paris.

Speaking to reporters, Attal said there would be "huge consequences", with "hundreds of thousands" of people stranded as they try to visit Paris for games or holidays. Most of the British athletes came to the Games by Eurostar.

The British Olympic Association said only two athletes would arrive on Friday and there had been minor delays. The company said customers were notified by email, text message and on Eurostar's website.

All affected passengers can cancel or refund their tickets or change their journey free of charge.

Traffic on France's high-speed rail network should return to normal by Monday, Transport Minister Patrice Vergriete said on Saturday after signaling stations and sabotaged cables caused chaos on Friday.

"A full return to normality is expected on Monday," he told reporters in a report on the traffic situation.
