The official opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Paris has begun.

For the first time in the history of the Olympic Games, the opening ceremony will not be held in the stadium.

About 10 athletes will be on almost 500 boats that will sail the Seine River and pass by some of the most famous Parisian monuments.

The boats with the athletes will eventually arrive in front of the Trocadero, the promenade in front of the Eiffel Tower. The official part of the protocol and the lighting of the Olympic flame will take place there, KosovaPress reports.

The main director of the opening ceremony is Thomas Jolly, a French theater director and actor, and although the details are still largely kept secret, it has been announced that around three thousand artists will perform, of which 400 will be dancers.

About 600 people are expected to attend the ceremony live in Paris. About 222 thousand tickets were free, while 104 thousand were sold. For those who will be in Paris, but not at the event itself, 80 large screens have been prepared throughout the city.
