The Food and Veterinary Agency (AUV) has ordered the lifting of control measures for all meat shipments coming from Brazil, after the latter announced the outbreak of Newcastle disease (NCD) in this South American country.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock in Brazil has notified several countries, among them Kosovo, of the temporary suspension of certification for exports of poultry meat and its products.
This disease is an infection of domestic fowl and other bird species with the virulent Newcastle disease virus.
AUV says that it will do a detailed check of each load to ensure that the load is in accordance with the legal rules that exclude any doubt of danger after the newly created situation.
The Food and Veterinary Agency in cooperation and coordination with the agencies within the Integrated Border Management, the Kosovo Police and the Kosovo Customs, in full capacity will execute the measures according to the notification order, to prevent the entry of cargo from the affected areas .
Among the products are fresh, cold or frozen poultry meat, which is sold in the countries of the region, which includes Kosovo. In implementation of the legal procedures and rules, the control level measures will be in accordance with the international standards of the trading of food products for management based on the situation.
It is not of concern for food safety or public health. Citizens as consumers need not worry. The disease is of a social-economic nature, which endangers only the sector of poultry farms, the communiqué states.
