Cases of a dangerous and very deadly bacterial infection have reached record levels in Japan, writes il messaggero.it

As of June 2, the Japanese Ministry of Health has recorded 977 cases of streptococcal toxic shock syndrome, with a fatality rate of up to 30%.

Between January and March, 77 people died from this infection.

Experts believe that the weakened immune system of people after COVID-19 may be one of the causes of the sharp increase in cases.

Streptococcal toxic shock syndrome is one of the rarest and most aggressive forms of type A streptococcal infection.

The condition can deteriorate rapidly, even in 24-48 hours, and cause symptoms such as high fever, hypotension, tachycardia, as well as failure of various organs and death.
