Washington and Brussels should be more determined in opposing Belgrade's plan for regional dominance in the Western Balkans, reinforcing the independence of all of Serbia's neighbors, Janusz Bugajski, an expert on Balkan affairs, estimates in an editorial for The Geopost. Thus, he emphasizes that the main loser will be Russia and this will undermine the position of all regimes that see Moscow as allies.

The loss of Russia, he writes, will weaken China's anti-Western ambitions and isolate the regimes in Iran, Serbia, Syria, and Belarus.

"To undermine US leadership in the independence bloc, Moscow encourages regional conflicts. It takes advantage of proxies and collaborators such as Hamas, Hezbollah and the Iranian regime to carry out terrorist attacks and ignite wars in the Middle East. It encourages the regime of Vuçiqit and its collaborators in Bosnia-Herzegovina, Kosovo and Montenegro to destabilize independent governments and create problems for Washington in the Western Balkans. And it supports North Korea in its threatening nuclear posture toward South Korea and Japan," he writes.

The expert on Balkan affairs believes that the US has an opportunity to score a historic victory over Russia, America's permanent adversary, without the death of a single American soldier.

"To achieve such a decisive triumph, Washington must provide all the firepower Ukraine needs to defeat the Russian invaders. All military-related infrastructure within Russia, including transport, energy and military industry, are now legitimate targets as Moscow has created a war economy. Russia's defeat in Ukraine will help ensure European security by reducing Moscow's military capabilities and consolidating the independence of all its neighbors. Russia's defeat will also send a strong signal to Beijing not to underestimate Western capabilities and political resolve by attacking Taiwan. It will weaken China's anti-Western ambitions, isolate regimes in Iran, Serbia, Syria, Belarus and other proxies, and encourage democratic forces to overthrow failed dictators," he says. /The Geopost
