Italy considers that the commitment to create a draft statute for the Association of Municipalities with a Serbian majority proposed on Thursday in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Donika Gërvalla, is not valid.

This is what the ambassador of Italy in Kosovo, Antonello De Riu, announced in an interview with KosovaPress, for which he points out that the letter declaring the intention to send a new draft statute cannot be taken seriously if it is not shared with him. all interested parties.

In addition, De Riu says that the draft statute of the Association proposed by the European Union should be sent to the Constitutional Court.

Among other things, the Italian ambassador says that despite the fact that Kosovo has currently lost the momentum for membership in the Council of Europe, there are still other opportunities to recover this journey.

Asked if the Government of Kosovo should definitely send the draft of the Association to the Constitutional Court to enable the country's membership in international organizations, he said that the draft proposed by the EU should be taken into account by Kosovo.

Apart from these, De Riu says that sending the proposal of the draft statute for the Association from Gërvalla does not constitute any great importance in the current circumstances.

Even though the Council of Europe did not put Kosovo on the agenda announced for membership on May 17, De Rio says that it is something recoverable and that there are still other opportunities to move forward in this journey.

We recall that on Thursday, the head of diplomacy, Donika Gërvalla, sent a letter to the president of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Theodoros Rousopoulos, in which she said that the Government of Kosovo is preparing a draft for the creation of a mechanism for self-sufficiency. coordination and cooperation of municipalities with Serbian majority in Kosovo.

Meanwhile, after the letter sent by the Government of Kosovo to the Council of Europe, to pave the way for Prishtina's membership in the Council of Europe, in a joint letter, in addition to the Prime Minister of Italy, Giorgia Meloni, the German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and the President of France , Emmanuel Macron address the Prime Minister of Kosovo Albin Kurti with a firm answer saying that the request will not be accepted if there is no Association. /Mr. Zeneli/
