Cardinal Richelieu 387 years ago, precisely on May 13, 1637 in France, created the table knife to remove the disgusting habit of tearing food with teeth.

For a time, in 1669, the French King Louis XIV banned the use of the table knife as a way to reduce the incidence of violence fueled by arguments during meals.

The use of the knife at the bread table then gave rise to the need for the fork as people began to become more civilized and polite.
