The Balkan countries are a still unknown part of Europe, rich in history, culture and stunning landscapes.

The Balkans are characterized by kind and hospitable people, delicious food and unique drinks.

Spring is a fantastic time to plan a trip. The peak tourist season hasn't arrived yet, so the crowds will be less and the prices more budget-friendly.

So where exactly should you go during this season?

The American daily magazine "YardBarker" has recommended the 20 best cities in the Balkans to visit during the spring, among them Tirana, Saranda and Berat.

Tirana Albania

This is perhaps the strangest capital in the Balkans. Italian architecture from the Mussolini period is interspersed with blocks from the communist era and the historical remains of its diverse past as an Ottoman fortress and a country closed under the regime of the communist dictatorship for 50 years, ATSh reports, KosovaPress reports.

These days the city is full of life. From the trendy Block area to Tirana's large city park and endless monuments and museums to explore.

Tirana has undergone many changes in recent years, thanks to the great touristic growth of Albania.

These efforts have been successful, as the number of visitors continues to grow by millions each year.

This means the city is growing in popularity, so visit before June for a more relaxed experience.

Also, the month of June is much nicer in terms of temperatures.

Saranda, Albania

Saranda has been called the unofficial capital of the "Albanian River".

The crystal turquoise waters rival those of Greece, the beach bars can make you feel like you're on the beaches of Tulum, and the outfits on the evening promenade will make you think it's Milan Fashion Week.

Berat, Albania

This ancient city is known for its traditional white Ottoman-style houses.

The windows of the houses seem to watch you as you arrive or stroll along the riverside promenade, a favorite evening activity for locals.

In Berat you will have the opportunity to explore the Byzantine church, the Ottoman mosque and a castle with an amazing view!
