On February 25, 1836, Samuel Colt registered his invention, the five-shot revolver.

The principle of operation of the Colt pistol was not new, but it was more practical than all revolvers up to that time.

The US Army and Navy included the Colt revolver in its arsenal of standard weapons, which led to this weapon being used by other military units as well.

The Colt gun factory in Paterson, New Jersey, produced thousands of such pistols until 1841, when the second variant, the Walter Colt, came out, a larger pistol chambered for 0-millimeter 45-caliber cartridges.

The new Walter Colt pistol weighing about 1 kilogram and 23 centimeters long muzzle, was said to resemble an artillery cannon.
