The Council for the Protection of Human Rights and Freedoms (KMDLNJ) has called on citizens to use every legal opportunity due to high electricity bills, not excluding the possibility of organizing protests as a democratic right.

In a reaction to the media, KMDLNJ says that the citizens of Kosovo have been robbed with the latest bills (December 2023) which, in many cases, are 400 percent higher than those of the previous month (November 2023).

KMDLNJ reminds that it has requested investigations from the State Prosecutor's Office and that citizens do not pay the full bills, but complain and file lawsuits in the courts and oppose in an organized manner through protests.

KMDLNJ also spoke about today's plenary session where the high electricity prices are being debated, saying that the position is trying at all costs to justify "this unprecedented harm done to the citizens of Kosovo".

"In the extraordinary session, the statements came out that the electricity is bought for 2 euros and 90 cents, while the citizens are billed for 14 euros and 45 cents, which is a sufficient fact for quick investigations. Institutional responsibility would also be found in between. The 100 euros allocated by the Government are intended to drown out the noise, while the subsidy has only started after there were many reactions and to avoid the organized objections of citizens who have been openly stolen and there are doubts even from certain institutional segments", it is stated in reaction.

KMDLNJ opposes the undeniable abuses, demanding investigations and responsibility as it has opposed the discrimination of citizens/consumers on ethnic grounds as a serious violation of human rights.

In this context, the KMDLNJ has opposed the meeting with the ERO since the latter has the main institutional responsibility for the created situation.
