The installation of a space tracking satellite system has been completed at the Naval Academy in Varna, and within days a new deep-water complex will be inaugurated, the rector of the Nikola Vaptsarov Naval Academy, Admiral of the Flotilla Boyan Mednikarov said here on Tuesday during the celebration of the 143- anniversary of the establishment of the Academy.

Among the guests at the party were Minister of Innovation and Growth Milena Stoycheva, Deputy Minister of Defense Atanas Zapryanov, Commander of the Naval Forces Rear Admiral Kiril Mihaylov, Mayor of Varna Blagomir Kotsev, Regional Governors of Varna and Burgas, Andrijana Andreeva and Plamen Yanev , rectors of universities, senior officers, among others.

Mednikarov emphasized that the school is effectively adapting to changes in the modern world and at the same time remains an important part of the structure of military education in this country. Mednikarov described 2023 as a "challenging" year.

According to him, across Europe there is a tendency for young people to prefer the IT industry instead of maritime professions. He expressed his pride that the Academy has anticipated this trend and the school has made many advances in the digital sphere, including the upcoming opening of new courses related to artificial intelligence, digital transformation, aerospace engineering and technology.

As major successes for 2023, Mednikarov reported the graduation of the first class of military doctors, as well as the successful completion of the first mission of the Bulgarian naval research vessel to Antarctica.

At the meeting, a congratulatory speech was read by President Rumen Radev. Also, awards were given to military, civilian employees and cadets by the Minister of Defense and the Chief of Defense for their important contribution in affirming the prestige of the Naval Academy./BTA-KosovaPress
