Violetta Berisha is the first Albanian-American mayor of Fairview Municipality in New Jersey - USA, the head of mission at the Consulate General of Kosovo in New York Blerim Reka has announced.

Reka, who participated in the inauguration ceremony of Violetta Berisha, said that she made us all Albanians proud.

"Last night at the solemn swearing-in ceremony of the prefect of Fairview, Violetta Berisha, the first Albanian-American to head the town in its 139-year history. In the presence of the governor of New Jersey, Phil Murphy, congressman Bill Pascrell, and high officials of this American state, Violetta made us all Albanians proud", wrote Reka.

The President of Albania, Bajram Begaj, has congratulated Violetta Berisha, originally from Puka, describing it as a historical moment for Albanians in the USA.

"Congratulations to Violetta Berisha for being sworn in as Mayor of Fairview, New Jersey. This is a historic moment not only for him, but also for the Albanian community in the USA. Her success as the first Albanian woman to receive such a task is a model of inspiration and pride", wrote Begaj on Facebook. /tch
