Today, Bulgaria detected the first 12 cases of the omicron variant of the corona virus, said the Bulgarian Chief Health Inspector Angel Kunchev.

"We have confirmed a new variant in the samples of 12 people," he told a news conference.

Kunchev said the people were mostly infected in Sofia, and that they had mild symptoms and that no one had been hospitalized, Reuters reports.
