Thomas Tuchel has been confirmed as the new England manager, with the former Chelsea and Bayern Munich boss signing an 18-month deal that will take him to the 2026 World Cup.
He has been out of work since leaving Bayern Munich at the end of the 2023/24 season following a dispute with the club's hierarchy. The FA first approached Tuchel in the summer and he has now agreed a deal worth £5million a year - double Southgate's pay. He becomes the third foreign coach of England after Sven-Goran Eriksson and Fabio Capello, according to KosovaPress.
Interim manager Lee Carsley will remain in charge of the Three Lions for England's upcoming Nations League games against Greece and the Republic of Ireland in November. He stepped down from the Under-21 role following Southgate's departure.
The FA also contacted Pep Guardiola in the summer, but moved on to Tuchel after the City manager was unable to give them an answer. Guardiola is out of contract at City in the summer but there is a feeling he will sign a new deal with the reigning Premier League champions.
