Barcelona started the week by celebrating coach Hansi Flick's 60th birthday on Monday, but without Lamine Yamal. The teenage striker was withdrawn before the end of the match against Las Palmas after assisting Dani Olmo's first goal in a 2-0 win, but accepted the consequences of the defense's attempts to stop him.
The 17-year-old reacted furiously after not being given a foul for a challenge on Alex Munoz in the second half, in disbelief that the referee had ignored his complaints. Something he was still frustrated about after the final whistle, as was evident from his Instagram story on Saturday night.
On Monday, Lamine Yamal missed training as Barcelona prepared to face Atletico Madrid at home in the first leg of their Copa del Rey semi-final. He has instead been working out in the gym, but is now a doubt for the game. Spanish newspaper Sport explains that Lamine Yamal is insisting on being ready against Atletico and intends to be on the pitch despite his foot injury, KosovaPress reports.
However, medical staff stopped him from training on Monday as a precaution and the club has not ruled him out. How his leg progresses over the next 24 hours will determine whether and how much he plays.
Flick has generally not selected players who are unavailable for training the day before a match, but given the occasion and the importance that Lamine Yamal has, he may be tempted to include the teenager in the squad.
