Nine years after the entry into force of the Law on Electronic Surveillance of persons whose movement is restricted by court decision, the system of links for electronic surveillance was launched on Tuesday.
State institutions expect that the electronic surveillance system will prevent cases of domestic violence.
The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, considered the launch of this system a giant step.
The Minister of Justice, Albulena Haxhiu, considered the launch of electronic links as the most important project implemented within the 16 days of activation against gender-based violence.
"This is one of the most important projects to protect the life and dignity of girls and women in the Republic of Kosovo," she said.
Minister of Internal Affairs, Jelal Sveçla said that the bracelets will also be used to prevent other criminal offenses.
The General Director of the Kosovo Police, Gazmend Hoxha, said that this institution now has one more tool for preventing cases of domestic violence.
"It took a lot of work to get to this level, so I hope that we have as few cases of domestic violence as possible. However, today I have one more tool to prevent cases of domestic violence and other cases", Hoxha emphasized.
The sum of 600 euros for the purchase of bracelets was allocated by the government in April last year.
The law on electronic surveillance of persons whose movement is restricted by court decision is in force from July 1, 2015.
According to this law, electronic surveillance is done by court decision and is carried out by placing a special device (bracelet) on the person's body. The same is monitored if it exceeds the perimeter allowed by the court.
The civil society has constantly requested the implementation of this law, as it was seen as a means of increasing security for women and preventing domestic violence./B.Ibishi.
