A tragic incident occurred on Sunday evening in Vushtrri, where a 19-year-old was shot dead by a peer. The latter admitted guilt during a statement, while the motives for this serious incident are still unknown. Weapons in the hands of young people are considered an alarm for all security and justice institutions in the country, writes KosovaPress.

The murder of the young man occurred on "Galip Badivuku" street in Vushtrri, at around 20:35 p.m., where police announced that the 19-year-old suffered fatal wounds.

The suspect's admission of guilt was announced to KosovaPress on Monday by the spokesperson for the Basic Prosecution Office in Mitrovica, Valon Preteni.

He emphasized that the suspect for the criminal offense of "Aggravated Murder" is being held in custody for 48 hours.

"The weapon with which this murder is suspected to have been committed has been seized, the Prosecution and the police are collecting relevant evidence in relation to the case. During the statement, the suspect admitted his guilt for the murder. Within the legally prescribed deadline, the prosecution will file a request for the detention measure against the suspect for this case. During the investigation, the motives that led to this event will also be revealed," it is said in the response to KosovaPress.

Lawyer Skender Musa says that due to the age of the arrested person, the maximum sentence cannot be imposed.

"The perpetrator of the criminal offense is a minor, just like the deceased. If the criminal offense is considered only as murder, then the punishment is foreseen from five years to a maximum of 25 years. Meanwhile, if the criminal offense is considered as aggravated murder, then the punishment is from 10 years and above. However, capital punishment cannot be imposed, life sentences or severe capital punishments cannot be imposed. At this stage of the procedure, it is too early to provide an accurate analysis, because the position of the deceased or the position of the perpetrator of the criminal offense is not known. The motives are not known, it is not known under what circumstances the perpetrator of the criminal offense acted," he states.

The Ombudsman Institution told KosovaPress that possession of weapons is endangering the life of every person in the country.

"Weapons in the hands of citizens continue to directly endanger the life of every person in the country, as well as violate public safety and peace, and this is an alarm for all security and justice institutions in the country. All responsible and competent institutions in the Republic of Kosovo must take action to tighten measures against illegal possession of weapons throughout the country, an action that they should consider as urgent and necessary action," it is stated in the response of the Ombudsman Institution.

Police said a raid was conducted at the suspect's home, where a long gun with five rounds of ammunition was found and confiscated. Meanwhile, at the scene of the crime, police found three cartridges and confiscated a revolver that is suspected to have been used by the suspect to commit the crime, reports KosovaPress.

The person who possessed the weapon that was used last night for murder, according to the director of the Kosovo Center for Security Studies (KCSS), Mentor Vrajolli, must be held accountable.

"It is important that while the problem of illegal weapons is a problem, it is solved as such, because it is difficult for institutions to collect all those weapons. What needs to be done by institutions is to work with more young people to address the problem of violence," he says.

According to him, appropriate mechanisms should be created to address the prevention of these cases.

"We should not see the police as the last instance of prevention, but we should have cooperation between the community and a party, in this case the Police, or regional mechanisms or various task forces that could be created in municipalities that would deal with identifying these problems," he adds.

The tragic incident that occurred last night in Vushtrri is considered an alarm for the country by sociologist Labinot Konushevci, according to KosovaPress.

"The public education system is failing to create a more emancipatory culture that would prevent these murders. Murder is an extremely disturbing phenomenon that occurs more in those societies where social and institutional control is lacking. So, a frustrated society, a society that does not have communication as a means to solve the problem", He says.

The Mayor of Vushtrri, Ferit Idrizi, has reacted after the tragic murder, demanding that this case be solved as soon as possible.

Authorities are continuing investigations to uncover the motives that led to this tragic event./Sh.Pajaziti
