Kosovo National Team Coach, Franco Foda, has made a detailed summary of his first year in charge of the Dardanelles, giving his opinion on the team's progress, the approach of new players and expectations for future challenges.
In an interview for the official FFK website, Foda expressed his satisfaction with the team's achievements during 2024 and optimism for the match against Iceland in March 2025, which could elevate Kosovo to League B of the UEFA Nations League. Foda also shared his impressions of the training camp organized for promising talents of the future and the importance of their support for the development of the national team.
"Overall, we can be very satisfied with 2024. The team has developed extremely well over the last ten months. We now have excellent dynamics, strong competition within the group and above all, a great team spirit. Now, we just have to continue this progress in 2025. I am very confident that in the upcoming matches against Iceland, we will perform well there as well," Foda initially said, according to KosovaPress.
He added that the young players have brought very positive energy to the Dardans.
"Every coach is happy when there are new players who bring fresh energy to the team. As I mentioned before, we now have strong competition within the team, which is very beneficial for the team. I strongly believe that these players have given the team a new impulse, as was clearly shown in the last matches," he added."However, I think we are a little disappointed that we only finished second in our group, especially since the last match in Romania showed that more was possible in this group. Iceland has a very dynamic and athletic team. Many of their players play in strong leagues abroad. However, if we can build on the performances of 2024, especially if we play like in the last away match in Romania, then we have a very good chance of facing Iceland and, above all, of advancing to League B," Foda continued.
The head of the Kosovo National Team also spoke about the training camp that lasted four days and looked at young players who could potentially play for Kosovo in the future.
“For my coaching team and for me, it was important to personally get to know the best players or the most promising young talents who could be suitable for the Kosovo national team in the future. We wanted to take a closer look at their athletic abilities here in the country. We also wanted to have conversations with them. And I believe that the training sessions over the last few days were very, very good. We had good intensity in training. The players are all very eager to learn, very curious, but the most important thing for us was to convey our ideas, principles and rules to the players within the national team. And we have done this over the last few days. We are very, very satisfied with this training camp. I think it will be very important for the future to continue holding such training camps, because these are our players of the future, our talents for the future. We need to cultivate them and develop them further. "As I already mentioned, it will be essential for us to support these young players in the future. Many of them already play abroad, while others play here in the domestic league. We must accompany them, promote them, develop them further and try to support them in their daily work, because these players represent the future of Kosovo," he concluded.
