Genoa has confirmed the appointment of Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira as their new coach. Genoa said Vieira will take charge of his first training session on Wednesday afternoon after signing his contract at the club's headquarters in Villa Rostan.
The Grifone suddenly sacked their coach, Alberto Gilardino, on Tuesday, just five days before a key Serie A match against direct rivals Cagliari.
A former French international, Vieira began his coaching career at Manchester City with the Elite Development Squad before moving to City Group-affiliated New York City FC.
He has also managed Crystal Palace in the Premier League, plus Nice and Strasbourg in France's Ligue 1.
Vieira has football experience in Serie A, having played for Milan, Juventus and Inter. He made 100 appearances in Italy's top league and scored 11 goals.
