The United States Embassy in Sarajevo has reacted to the recent statements of the Russian Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina after the energy security meeting. In the reaction, it is said that the statement of the "Russian Embassy should not be a surprise from a country that launched an illegal and unprovoked attack against Ukraine", reports KosovaPress.
"This is not the first time that the Russian embassy threatens BiH. These threats are a concrete demonstration of Russia's malign influence in BiH. They underline how much Russia fears losing its monopoly on gas supplies to BiH along with its ability to extort BiH both politically and economically. We want to thank the Russian Embassy for making clear to the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina and its political parties the cynical nature of its alleged "friendship" with Bosnia and Herzegovina," the reaction reads.
It further states that "the issue before the government and parliament of the Federation of BiH now is whether they are prepared to act to protect BiH from Russia's malign influence by passing the Law on the Southern Interconnection that passed the House of Representatives of the Federation in December 2021 , and to enable a project to move forward, which has been stalled for three years by one individual, that would bring economic benefits to all residents of the Federation of BiH, especially those in Herzegovina. The choice is theirs, but history will judge harshly those who put the interests of Russia above those of the citizens of BiH".
At the end of the response, it is also stated that the United States remains committed to the territorial integrity, sovereignty and multi-ethnic character of BiH, as well as its integration into the Euro-Atlantic institutions.
