The heads of Spanish, German and French diplomacy declared today in Paris that no decision on Ukraine can be made without Kiev and without the participation of Europe.

The reactions came after US President Donald Trump said he had reached an agreement with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin to immediately begin negotiations on Ukraine.

French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot warned that there will be no just and lasting peace in Ukraine without the participation of Europeans.

"Abandoning Ukraine, forcing Ukraine to capitulate would mean definitively establishing the law of the strongest and sending an invitation to all the despots and tyrants of the planet to attack their neighbor with complete impunity," he said.

While German Minister Annalena Baerbock and Spanish counterpart José Manuel Albares Bueno affirmed that no decision can be made without Ukraine.

"There is no decision on Ukraine without Ukraine," Baerbock said, adding that Europe must remain united.

"We are talking about a sovereign country with a democratically elected government. Moreover, nothing that affects European security - and Russian aggression against Ukraine directly threatens European security - cannot be decided without Europe. "The world is not a jungle. We have a world order based on the UN Charter that has functioned since the end of World War II for the good of all," said the head of Spanish diplomacy.

Polish Minister Radoslaw Sikorski stressed the need to strengthen support for Ukraine and advocated for close transatlantic cooperation.

The ministers' statements come ahead of a meeting in Paris on European defense and Ukraine, which brings together France, Germany, Poland, Spain, Italy, the United Kingdom and Ukraine. The meeting will take place after Trump and Putin agreed to start negotiations to end the war in Ukraine immediately.
