Three months ago, citizens in Serbia were shocked after 15 people died in the collapse of the reconstructed railway station shelter in Novi Sad.
After this tragic event, student protests began, which are still ongoing, demanding accountability for this incident. Students are demanding the publication of full documentation for the reconstruction of the station.
They also demand the release of activists who were arrested during the protests. Meanwhile, they want the attackers of the protests to be brought to justice.
An indictment against 13 people suspected of the tragic case was filed in early November by the High Court of Novi Sad.
The students also received support from farmers who blocked the main roads in Belgrade with tractors.Since late November, tens of thousands of protesters have been on the streets of Belgrade. They have also blocked the main roads in the capital.
The resignations came after more than two months of mass protests in Serbia. Prime Minister Miloš Vučević resigned, while the mayor of Novi Sad, Milan Đurgjić, also left.
This happened after some attackers beat several students with baseball bats.
This is not the only case, there have been dozens of attacks on students. They have been hit in various ways, as well as hit by cars.
Showing that resignations are not enough, students have continued their actions by going from Belgrade to Novi Sad, in a march that began on Thursday. On Saturday, on the three-month anniversary of the shelter's collapse, a large number of students and citizens blocked three bridges in Novi Sad.
Political insiders say that Belgrade has not seen more massive protests since the protests that overthrew the government of Slobodan Milosevic.
For example, the analyst Ivana Stradner commenting on the massive protests across Serbia against Aleksandar's regime Vuçiq, said that they resemble previous protests against the one known as the Butcher of the Balkans.
In December, the Serbian president said that the protests are not student-led, but according to him, they have support from abroad./KosovaPress
