September 13 is a historic date for Kosovar football, the day when the first match of the appropriation of local football took place, between Flamurtar and Pristina, organized by the Independent Football Federation of Kosovo, on September 13, 1991.

This is known at the same time as the beginning of the period of independence of football from the then Serbo-Slavic regime, in which case the independent FFK was founded, under the leadership of the chairman Agim Bytyqi.

To realize this major initiative and to put the federation into operation, a system of new competitions was created and the first historic match was played.

"The clubs were organized thanks to the sporting spirit and the support of tireless donors, while all the necessary bodies were established for the operation of the league. Due to the exclusion from sports facilities by the Serbian regime, new football fields were improvised, resuming competitions even in difficult conditions. Today, we proudly commemorate all the collaborators and co-owners who contributed in those times: players, coaches, managers and donors of the clubs, judges and delegates", says a post of the Football Federation of Kosovo, forwarded by KosovaPress.
