The year 2025 has started with bad news for the citizens of the country in terms of prices. According to the Kosovo Agency of Statistics, consumer prices increased by 1,5 percent in January 2025, compared to January of last year. Meanwhile, the monthly inflation rate was 0,7 percent in January 2025.

According to ASK, the price increase was mainly influenced by several main consumption categories.

Compared to December 2024, prices have increased the most in vegetables, electricity, tobacco, fuels and lubricants for personal transport equipment, coffee, tea and cocoa, as well as other food products such as meat and fruit.

"This is mainly explained by the increase in consumer prices: vegetables 5,2%, electricity 2,8%, tobacco 2,5%, fuels and lubricants for personal transport equipment 2,3%, coffee, tea and cocoa 1,9%, meat 1,8%, fruits 1,7%, solid fuels, firewood, pellets etc. 1,0% and milk, cheese and eggs (0,6%) and with a joint impact of these subgroups of 0,8 percent on the HICP," the KAS report states.

Compared to January last year, prices have increased significantly for several categories of goods and services.

Among the products and services with the highest price increases are coffee, tea and cocoa, oils, as well as personal transportation services.

Also, higher prices were recorded for non-alcoholic beverages, newspapers and office supplies, financial services, meat and dairy products.

"This is mainly explained by the increase in consumer prices: coffee, tea and cocoa 14,6%, oils and fats 8,3%, other services related to personal transport equipment 7,6%, mineral water, non-alcoholic beverages, fruit and vegetable juices 6,1%, newspapers, books and office supplies 5,4%, financial services 5,2%, glassware, cutlery and kitchen utensils 5,1%, meat 4,6%, goods and services for the usual maintenance of the household 4,0%, alcoholic beverages 3,9%, milk, cheese and eggs 3,0%, clothing 2,9%, tobacco 2,9%, vegetables 2,5%, personal care 2,5%, bread and cereals 2,1% and hotel services 2,1% with a joint impact of these subgroups of 2,1 percent on "KHI", announces ASK.

Inflation in Kosovo had peaked at an annual rate of around 12 percent in 2022.

Meanwhile, a price drop of 6.4 percent is observed in flight tickets.

Days ago, many citizens joined the initiative to boycott supermarkets as a result of the continuous increase in prices in Kosovo.
