The city of Skenderaj today gathered men and women from all over Kosovo, but also Albania and North Macedonia, who came to pay their respects at the coffin of the father of former president Hashim Thaçi, Haxhi Thaçi.

At the "Ilaz Kodra" gym, there were long lines of those waiting to pay homage to the coffin of Haxhi Thaçi, where in addition to family members and citizens, political associates and comrades-in-arms of former president Hashim Thaçi also paid homage.

Former president Hashim Thaçi, who is in custody in The Hague, was absent, and the Special Court, according to the KLA OVL, did not allow him to participate in his father's funeral ceremony, reports KosovaPress.

Citizens considered this decision unfair, while they spoke highly of Haxhi Thaçi, KosovaPress reports.

Citizen Rexhep Kodra from Prekazi called the late Haxhi Thaçi a father who gave a lot to the Kosovo war.

Kodra, who comes from a patriotic family, called the Special Court unconscionable.

Hajrullah Bajrami also came from Vushtrri to Skenderaj to pay his respects to the Thaçi family, saying that the Thaçi family has contributed to the country. Meanwhile, he expressed his indignation at the Special Police's action that did not allow the former head of the KLA, Hashim Thaçi, to attend his father's funeral.

For this citizen, the Special Court is corrupt and weak.

Rrahman Mustafa from Obria e Ulët also said great words for the Thaçi family and especially for Haxhi Thaçi, writes KosovaPress .

Even this citizen who came to pay homage to the coffin of the father of former president Hashim Thaçi called the Special Court's decision, which denied the former president the right to be present at his father's funeral ceremony, unjust.

After the tributes at the "Ilaz Kodra" gym, a commemorative meeting was held to honor Haxhi Thaçi, attended by citizens, family members, and associates of former president Hashim Thaçi.

The burial of Thaçi's father took place in the new cemetery in the village of Burojë.

Apart from telegrams of condolences, state leaders did not come to Skenderaj to pay homage to Haxhi Thaçi's coffin.

To offer condolences on the occasion of the death of Haxhi Thaçi, father of former President Hashim Thaçi, an institutional delegation from Albania came to Skenderaj.

This delegation is made up of the Speaker of the Albanian Parliament, Elisa Spiropali, the Minister of Diaspora, Taulant Balla, the Ambassador of Albania to Kosovo, Petrit Malaj, the wife of the Prime Minister, Edi Rama, Linda Rama, the former Speaker of the Albanian Parliament, Gramos Ruqi, writes KosovaPress .

Haxhi Thaçi died on Sunday evening at the age of 87 at the UCCK, while being treated for an illness.

The Hague Specialist Chambers have not granted permission to former President Hashim Thaçi to attend his father's funeral. This decision by the Specialist Chambers has raised numerous reactions, including those of the Prime Minister of Albania, Edi Rama, and the Minister of Justice, Albulena Haxhiu, about which she said she will also write to the President of the Specialist Chambers, Ekaterina Trendafilova.

We recall that last Thursday, with the permission of the Special Court, former President Hashim Thaçi was in Kosovo where he visited his now deceased father, who was receiving medical treatment at the University Clinical Center of Kosovo.

This meeting, which lasted 3 hours, was also Thaçi's last meeting with his father.

This visit by the former president was accompanied by high security measures.

Hashim Thaçi is facing a protracted trial at the Special Court in The Hague.

He has been in custody since November 2020, writes KosovaPress.

The Office of the Specialist Prosecutor in The Hague accuses Thaçi of alleged war crimes.

He has pleaded not guilty to all counts of the indictment.
