The Government of the Republic of Kosovo strongly condemns the efforts of the Serbian authorities to stop the donation dedicated to subsidizing Albanian farmers in Presheva, Bujanoc and Medvegja.
Deputy Prime Minister Besnik Bislimi said that this donation, initiated at the request of the Albanian National Council, aims to improve the life of the Albanian community and support the economic development of the region, considering that even further the municipalities of Presheva, Bujanovac and Medvegja are among the most underdeveloped in Serbia, among the poorest with high unemployment, especially among young people.
"On October 26, 2024, the Albanian National Council announced the public call for farmers, accepting over 1,178 applications. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Human and Minority Rights and Social Dialogue of Serbia has intervened to block this process, demanding the annulment of the decision on the public call. Precisely on December 10, on the International Day of Human Rights, Albanians in Presheva, Bujanoc and Medvegja were deprived of the possibility of assistance from the Republic of Kosovo", Bislimi wrote on Facebook.
Further in Bislim's reaction it is stated that "Serbia has no right to hinder our support for the Albanians of the Presheva Valley. We invite the European Union, the OSCE, the Quint countries and other international organizations to monitor this situation and act to protect the rights of Albanians in the Presheva Valley".
At the end of the response, it is also stated that the Government of Kosovo remains committed to helping the Albanians of the Presheva Valley and to protect their rights and national, cultural and linguistic identity.
