A memorial service was held in the US capital, Washington, for US Air Force soldier Aaron Bushnell, who set himself on fire saying he would not be "participant in the genocide in Gaza."

A group gathered in front of the Israeli embassy in Washington and the White House to commemorate the first anniversary of the death of American soldier Bushnell, who set himself on fire in response to Israel's attacks on Gaza, reports Anadolu.

Bushnell's poster was surrounded by flowers and candles.

Aaron Bushnell, a 25-year-old active-duty US Air Force soldier, on February 25, 2024, went to the Israeli embassy in Washington and after pouring gasoline on himself from head to toe, he set himself on fire, saying: "I will no longer join the crime of genocide."

During his act, Bushnell was dressed in military uniform as he chanted "Freedom for Palestine" until he ran out of breath.
