The selector of the Italian football team Luciano Spalletti will remain in that position until the end of his contract, the president of the Italian Football Federation, Gabriele Gravina, has announced.

Italy was defeated by Switzerland with a score of 2:0 in the round of 1 of the European and the Italians came to the tournament in Germany as the current champions of Europe.

"We are sorry for the result, but in sport there are also defeats. It remains a disappointment that we could not show what we wanted to everyone who followed us. We are all responsible, but we must continue. We believe in the project with Spalletti", said Gravina at the press conference, Gazzetta dello Sport reports.

"I am pragmatic, it is impossible to solve the problems by firing the coach and ending cooperation with the players who have contributed to this long-term project. Spalletti continues to enjoy our trust. He will continue his work because in 60 days he starts the League of Nations", added Gravina.

Spalletti has been in the position since last summer, when he replaced Roberto Mancini, who won the title with Italy at the last Euro.

In the group stage, Italy defeated Albania (2:1), lost to Spain (1:0), drew with Croatia (1:1) and was eventually eliminated by Switzerland.
