78 years ago, on June 27, 1944, the last act of the tragedy of the Albanians of Chameria began.

The Greek forces guaranteed that in case of handing over the weapons, nothing bad would happen to the Albanians of Chameria, during the meeting they had with the mufti, the mayor of the municipality council and the director of education of Paramithi.

This is what is said in the materials of the General Directorate of Archives of Albania, where it is emphasized that upon reaching this verbal pact, the promise was not only not kept by the criminal gangs of Napoleon Zerva (Greek army officer), but immediately after arriving in the city , they massacred over 200 Albanians from Chameria.

Thus the massacre of the defenseless population continued for days. During the attack on the civilian population, more than 30 Muslim Albanians were expelled and more than 3 were killed.

Meanwhile, the Orthodox Albanian population of Chameria was put under terror to deny their identity by killing their priest and leaving them hanging in the middle of the city for more than three days. Since 1994, the Albanian state recognizes this date as the Day of Genocide against the Albanians of Chameria by the Greek chauvinist forces.

Ironically, 421 years before this event, an Albanian from Chameria took over the leadership of most of the known world until then. He was Ibrahim Pashë Pargaliu, born in an Albanian Christian family of Parga, who as a child was taken as a slave by the Ottoman military expeditions and on a day like today, June 27, 1523, he became the Grand Vizier of the Ottoman Empire.
