A Bosnia and Herzegovina court rejected the request of the defense of Republika Srpska President Milorad Dodik and the acting director of the "Official Gazette of Republika Srpska" Miloš Lukić to read the indictment again and call witnesses.
Judge Sena Uzunović said that Dodik's request is unfounded and would lead to a delay in the proceedings before the Court of BiH.
In her explanation, Uzunović said that the defense had received audio recordings of the hearings where evidence was presented and witnesses were heard. She said that all witnesses were questioned directly. Uzunović also listed how many times the hearings had been postponed, including due to Dodik's surgery.
"Because of this, the trial could not proceed at the planned pace," she claims.
After Uzunović rejected the request to return the main trial to the beginning, Dodik said that "the entire procedure against him and Miloš Lukić is flawed.""When more than a month has passed since the trial was suspended, the proceedings resume if one of the parties requests it. We are asking that it start from the beginning," he said.
An incident occurred before the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina during the trial of Dodik and Lukić, who are accused of failing to implement decisions by High Representative Christian Schmidt.
A group of people gathered, including prominent political associates of Dodik, came to support him. At one point, loud music was heard, which prompted the police to intervene to bring the situation under control.
Among the most vocal was the SNSD representative in the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH, Sanja Vulić, who led the chant and shouted slogans in support of Dodik. The crowd chanted slogans, protesting the ongoing trial of the RS leader.
Police have maintained a presence in front of the Court of BiH to prevent possible new incidents.
