Manchester United coach Erik ten Hag is aiming for the Premier League title after extending his contract with the club. There was a flurry of speculation surrounding the Dutchman's future at the end of last season, with the club believed to have seriously considered a move away from his position.
However, Ten Hag is staying at Old Trafford, extending his contract until June 2026, and the Dutchman has now set his ambitions for the coming seasons, reports KosovaPress.
Manchester United finished eighth in the Premier League last season, making it their worst ever performance in the current format of the championship.
However, the 20-time English champions won the FA Cup, which allowed them to qualify for the 2024/25 Europa League group stage.
Ten Hag says Manchester United must "get better every day".
"We won an FA Cup, we won a Carabao Cup, but we also have high expectations of ourselves," Ten Hag told "MUTV".
"We know it doesn't come overnight; we have to work for it. We are very ambitious, so we have to raise our standards day by day and improve every day. Every time, we have to live with the line in our heads: e good is not good enough. We are working on it. It is a fact: United did not win a trophy for more than six years, but we are ready for more much and for higher titles such as the English title and even more, how to go to Europe. This is a process that takes time, and we will work on it, but I know that with the organization in club, with the changes in the structure and the changes in the infrastructure here around Carrington, we will be ready for we will improve. You feel it here, it gives a new energy, it gives a new dynamic and it will help us achieve the objectives ours. In the short term, it remains the same: we want to win every game, and we've seen it, they're capable of beating everyone," added Ten Hag.
Ten Hag is now working on a new facility at Old Trafford. Ten Hag also said he was very optimistic about the club's future under the new structure, with shareholder Sir Jim Ratcliffe now in charge of the football department. Dan Ashworth has been appointed as sporting director, while the arrival of Jason Wilcox as technical director was confirmed in mid-April.
"I've been here for two years. Like I said, I came here to win, to win titles, trophies. We won two trophies, after a dry spell of six years, so we're in a good direction." he added.
"Now, with the new ownership coming in, they can help us. They're very supportive. We've put a process in place, which we've built over the summer, and we're in a very good position, a very strong position to go and attack. We are very pleased that around the football, around the first team, we have a strong structure that will help us and that will help us in many ways, like scouting and recruiting in the medical departments. and performance will be so supportive and that will raise the bar," Ten Hag added.
Manchester United are 20-time English champions, with 13 of those successes coming in the Premier League, but they have not lifted the famous trophy since 2013.
