A 23-year-old man accidentally hit five passersby in the southern Austrian city of Villach, police said.

The attack killed a 14-year-old boy and injured four people. The suspect, a Syrian citizen legally residing in Austria, has been arrested.

A 42-year-old man, who works for a food delivery company, witnessed the incident from his car. He drove his vehicle towards the suspect and helped prevent the situation from escalating, police spokesman Rainer Dionisio told Austrian public broadcaster ORF.

Police said it is not yet clear whether the suspect acted alone and that they are continuing to search for other possible suspects.
