The chairman of the Euro-Atlantic Council of Serbia, Dragan Shormaz, today demanded the resignation of Aleksandar Vuçiq after the tragic death of 15 people from the collapse of the concrete shelter of the railway station in Novi Sad on 1 November.
“The only thing that matters, Aleksandar Vuçiq what he can say tonight is that he is resigning, because he is guilty of the death of 15 people in Novi Sad, that he expects the same from the government and that he recommends to the Assembly to choose a transitional government in agreement with the EU that will prepare the Republic of Serbia for fair elections in 2025", wrote Shormaz in X.
His comments come amid a protest by thousands of students and activists tonight around the Presidency in Belgrade, to express their displeasure during the speech by Vuçiq. The protest ended shortly after 20:00 and the students invited all citizens to join them tomorrow at 19:30.
Holding signs and placards, they whistled, shouted "bloody hands", but also called for the arrest of those responsible for the collapse of the shelter at the railway station in Novi Sad.
"There wouldn't be this blood if everything was according to the law", "Batina left the municipality", "We will also solve this system", "If you cut education - what will be left", "Students are not paid" , "Gravity is not to blame", "There is no science until the hands are bloody", "Students on blockade, workers on strike" – were some of the banners of the students in Belgrade.
Vuçiq in his televised speech he said that "he appreciates all those who are protesting tonight, but that with this rally they have shown that the protests are political."
