Manchester City's winning mentality during the season saw them overtake Arsenal in the Premier League, midfielder Rodri has said after his side won their fourth consecutive Premier League title.

Rodri scored as City beat West Ham United 3-1 at the Etihad on Sunday to clinch the title by two points ahead of Arsenal, who chased them down to the final day of a thrilling season.

City finished with 91 points while Arsenal, with 89, had to settle for runners-up for the second successive season despite winning 2-1 at home to Everton.

Asked what made the difference, Rodri told Optus Sport it came down to the mentality the two teams possessed.

"Arsenal also deserves praise, they had an incredible season, but I think the difference was here," said the Spaniard, according to KosovaPress.

Rodri highlighted Arsenal's defensive display at the Etihad at the end of March, which ended in a goalless draw as champions City failed to score despite dominating 72% of possession.

"When they faced us at the Etihad, I looked at them and said 'Ah, these guys, they don't want to beat us, they just want a draw' and that mentality, I don't think we'd do it the same way. And we caught them in title race. In the end, if you give us a point, we'll win the last seven, eight games even though it's so difficult. So I think that shows our mentality."

City have a chance to win another trophy this season as they face Manchester United in the FA Cup final next weekend. "It is also very important for us to do double", added Rodri.
