The Mayor of Pristina, Përparim Rama, and the Deputy Mayor Alban Zogaj, announced today the announcement of the tender for the ambitious project "Solar4Kosovo II - Solar Central Heating".
"This innovative project aims to provide clean energy for heating the city, including five main neighborhoods of the capital: Tophane, Prishtina "Old Town, Lakrishte, Kalabria and the Muhaxherëve Neighborhood, benefiting around 32,000 residents," the announcement states.
Solar4Kosovo is the first project of its kind in the Balkans and the second largest in Europe. With a capacity of 50 MW, it will produce thermal energy through a 63,000 m² solar thermal panel field and a large hot water storage tank with a capacity of 380,000 m³.
In addition to improving the central heating system, this project will have a significant impact on reducing pollution and protecting the environment. It is expected that Prishtina save 44,000 tons of CO₂ per year, placing the city on the global map of sustainable and green cities.
