Raising prices on the eve of the holidays for the end of the year has become common for traders in our country. Families in Kosovo significantly increase expenses for the holiday table and this affects the price of food products. While there is no shortage of abuses by traders for daily sales with their discounted offers.
The increase in prices is also affecting the large number of expatriates who come to their homeland to spend the holidays with their relatives.
Citizens complain that there are price increases and manipulations this year, mainly in the green markets as well as in grocery stores.
Citizen Avni Selimi noticed that there is an increase in the price of products on the eve of the New Year. He emphasizes for KosovaPress that based on the socio-economic conditions for the country's citizens, these prices are extremely high, as he said, "like in Germany".
Another retired citizen, Kadri Gashi, added that a few days ago the prices were cheaper, while with the approach of the holiday, according to him, they have risen by 30 percent.
While, according to the president of the Consumer Association, Selatin Kaçaniku, there are abuses with product prices. He requested the intervention of the relevant institutions for the protection of consumers and to prevent, as he says, the fraud of traders.
He has also spoken about discount offers in stores for the holidays, for which he says that these discounts are mostly "unrealistic, deceptive and infuriating".
The economic expert, Besnik Avdija, has appealed to the citizens to look at these "discounts", since in this way consumers are being manipulated.
Avdija has emphasized that there are cases when there is a price of two euros just before the holidays, and then, according to him, it becomes three euros with a discount and thus it is higher than the previous price.
He has called on the citizens of the country to report cases to the Market Inspectorate for any irregularities they encounter in the market and in shops.
In November, the increase in average prices for food products reached 0,7 percent, compared to November 2023.
This is mainly explained by the increase in consumer prices in this period for coffee, tea and cocoa by 11,8 percent, financial services by 9,1 percent, oils and fats by 6,9 percent, flight tickets by 6,7 percent. percent, mineral water, non-alcoholic beverages, fruit and vegetable juices 6,2 percent, alcoholic beverages 5,3 percent. There was also a price increase for milk, cheese and eggs by 4,2 percent, meat by 2,9 percent, bread and cereals by 1,8 percent and electricity by 1,6 percent.
