Politicians and associates visited the family of former President Hashim Thaçi in Burojë on Monday, following the death of his father, Haxhi Thaçi. They expressed condolences and remembered him as a man of high values.

The Chairman of the Democratic Party of Kosovo, Memli Krasniqi, said that Haxhi Thaçi has not only led his family but has also contributed to the education of generations.

He underlined that the pain was even greater due to the absence of Hashim Thaçi, who is in The Hague facing a protracted judicial process.

"We will always remember him for the extraordinary values he had.", Said Krasniqi.

The leader of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo, Ramush Haradinaj, during his visit to Burojë to console the family of President Hashim Thaçi, said that it is an injustice that he is not close to the family.

"The pain is growing, we are Albanians, we are sorry when our families go through this pain, of course also when these injustices are committed, like the case of the president who is not here with his family.", said Haradinaj.

Former deputy leader of the OVL-UCK, Nasim Haradinaj, during his visit to offer condolences, expressed that the family's pain is being increased by the fact that Hahsim Thaçi is in The Hague.

And the Thaçi family's cousin, Milazim Thaçi, shared his memories with the deceased.

"Recently, I have been with him a lot, but since we haven't grown up, we have grown old [together]. He was a wise man, a hard worker, he worked hard, he raised his children with great poverty. During the war, he was very strong and he gave us a lot of encouragement, 'don't worry, Kosovo will be liberated'. He was very upset, he said 'Hashimi, Hashimi, if only he would come, I would wait for him'. But he didn't wait for him.", He said.

The funeral of Haxhi Thaçi will take place tomorrow at 15:00 PM in the cemetery of the village of Burojë.

The news of Haxhi Thaçi's death was announced late Sunday. He was hospitalized at the University Clinical Center after being in serious health condition, KosovaPress reports.

It is still unknown whether the Special Court will grant permission for Hashim Thaçi to come from The Hague to Kosovo.

"The legal framework of the Kosovo Specialist Chambers allows detained persons to make requests to the competent judges for compelling humanitarian reasons. The judges will decide on such requests," Michael Doyle told KosovaPress, without indicating whether Thaçi will be allowed to attend his father's funeral.

On Thursday, he was visited by Hashim Thaçi, who was granted permission to visit by the Special Court, which is trying alleged war crimes, reports. KosovaPress.

The special was criticized in Kosovo for not fulfilling Thaçi's requests to visit his sick father, stressing that such court decisions were unfounded and inhumane, KosovaPress writes.

After a visit lasting about three hours under strict security measures, Thaçi returned to The Hague - the Dutch city where this court is headquartered.

Hashim Thaçi is facing a protracted trial before the Kosovo Specialist Chambers – known as the Special Court.

He has been in custody since November 2020 on charges of alleged war crimes, writes KosovaPress.

His trial began in April 2023.

Along with Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Jakup Krasniqi and Rexhep Selimi are also being tried. The former KLA leaders have pleaded not guilty to all counts of the indictment. /A.Shala.
