The protest announced by the Democratic Party started around 18:40. The protesters have gathered on the boulevard "Dëshmorët e Kombit", where they started the clash with the police stationed in front of the Prime Minister's building, as the canisters and molotov cocktails were thrown towards it. The State Police, through numerous calls, has called on the protesters to maintain calm.
A tree in front of the Prime Minister's Office was also burnt by the throwing of Molotov cocktails, while the police tried to extinguish the fire. After throwing some Molotov cocktails and smoke bombs, the situation seems to have calmed down at the Prime Minister's Office.
The protesters, led by the leaders of the Democratic Party, left the square in front of the Prime Minister's Office, while on the way the protesters burned a bus station. They blocked the intersection between Taiwan and Lana Bridge on the main boulevard, where there were cars stuck in traffic after the road was blocked. Meanwhile, the protesters continue to throw pyrotechnic devices. The protesters also burned a garbage can.
The protest was called by the Democratic Party as a reaction after the 1-year prison sentence of the deputy chairman of the DP parliamentary group, Ervin Salianji, who was found guilty by the court of "false accusation" related to the "Babalja" file.
The protest called by the Democratic Party, also supported by the Freedom Party, as had been announced, had no statements. The head of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, has stated earlier that civil disobedience is the only answer left to the opposition.
Supporters of the Democratic Party first gathered at the blue headquarters to continue on to the square in front of the prime minister's office. Berisha himself is under "house arrest", as he is a defendant in the privatization file of the former "Partizani" sports complex. Meanwhile, the protesters' march was led by Flamur Noka, General Secretary of the DP; Luciano Boçi, vice president of the Democratic Party; Gazment Bardhi, chairman of the DP group; the deputy speaker of the Assembly, deputy Agron Gjekmarkaj, as well as deputies Oerd Bylykbashi, Edi Paloka, etc.
Meanwhile, the head of the Freedom Party, Ilir Meta, left his party's headquarters, in the area of the former Block, to arrive in the area where the protest is taking place.
The protest is predicted by the organizers to last four hours. Meanwhile, shortly before its departure, a tire burned near the presidency, but the flames were immediately extinguished by the Police.
The State Police, since Monday morning, has announced the measures taken to maintain order and security, before, during and after the protest. Also, the State Police has announced the blocking of some road axes, while a cordon of law enforcement has been placed in front of the Prime Minister, creating a safety distance between the protesters and the Council of Ministers building. Likewise, the police force has been stationed at the building of the plenary sessions of the Assembly, as well as at the Presidency of the Assembly, the Ministry of the Interior, the Municipality of Tirana and other institutions of high importance, where the protesters can pass.
In a press release, the police informs the citizens that until the end of the rally, there will be a traffic jam on the boulevard "Dëshmorët e Kombit" from the intersection of the Ministry of the Interior to "Mother Teresa" square and on the streets "Ukraina e Lire", "Pope John Paul II" and "Ismail Qemali"./RTSH.
