One month of detention has been set for the two people suspected of the attack on the mayor of Peja, Gazmend Muhaxheri. The news for KosovaPress was confirmed by the spokesperson of the Basic Prosecutor's Office in Peja, Shkodran Nikçi.
The defendants are charged with the criminal offenses of "assault on an official person" and "slight bodily injury".
"The request of the Basic Prosecutor's Office in Peja has been approved by the Basic Court, the measure of detention has been assigned to two people for the attack on the mayor and one of his companions", said Nikçi.
Muhaxheri was attacked on the morning of October 26 in the city of Peja.
His lawyer, through social networks, said that he believes that the reason for the attack is related to his official work.
The attack on Muhaxheri was condemned by the party he belongs to - the Democratic League of Kosovo - and the president Lumir Abdixhiku.
"Gaz Muhajheri can neither be stopped nor intimidated," he wrote Abdixhiku.
After the attack, the Minister of Local Government Administration, Elbert Krasniqi, reacted, calling it a low and unacceptable act.
He said that justice should be served as soon as possible and "such actions should not be tolerated".
