The "Munella" Natural Park, in Puka, Albania, has become an attraction in recent years that is attracting nature and mountain climbing enthusiasts.

This park is also notable for its rich vegetation cover, mainly consisting of beech and black pine forests.

The National Agency for Protected Areas shared on social media images of the various plants found in this park, such as forsythia (Forsythia Europaea), black juniper (Juniperus Communis), oregano (Origanum vulgare), heather (Calluna Vulgaris), wild saffron (Crocusi), etc.

The Munella area has four vegetation belts/phytoclimatic zones found in our country, which reflect the values of the flora, vegetation and habitats of the country: 1) Mediterranean shrubs and forests 2) oak belt 3) beech belt and 4) alpine pastures.

In the Munella area there are 7 species of the floristic list, which are protected by international conventions. In the area there are 5 CITES species listed in Appendix I such as Abies alba, Pinus heldreichii, Pinus nigra, Pinus peuce and Vitis vinifera.

The forests with Pinus heldreichii are an important habitat, as the Bosnian pine is a relict species from the Tertiary period, but are also important for the conservation of biodiversity, as they have a large number of endemic taxa. They also represent a Balkan endemic feature with a very small distribution. Their presence increases the conservation importance of the Munella Mountain area.

Within the area of Mount Munella and its surroundings, there may be more than 17 potential Natura 2000 habitats. Rocky habitats, such as serpentine and limestone, which are found on Mount Munella, are interesting shelters for important species.

The Munella Mountain area is extremely important for the survival and reproduction of the critically endangered Balkan lynx in Albania and the wider region. The results indicate that a small subpopulation consisting of at least 4 adult individuals (and possibly up to six individuals) survives in Munella Mountain and its surroundings. This is the only confirmed resident and breeding population of lynx in Albania.

This mountain is home to various other wild animals such as rabbits, deer, wild boars and bears, which make Munella a place of great interest to explore.

"Munella" Natural Park, by decision of the Council of Ministers on January 26, 2022, the declaration of the "Munella" natural ecosystem as a "natural park" (category IV of protected areas) was approved, with an area of 20 ha.
