Turkish football club Galatasaray has accused Jose Mourinho of "racist statements", saying it will launch criminal proceedings against the Fenerbahçe coach for his comments following the teams' 0-0 draw in the Super League.

While it was unclear which statements he was referring to Galatasaray, Mourinho said the home bench were "dancing like monkeys" and that the match would be a disaster if a Turkish referee was officiating.

Monday's match was refereed by Slovenian Slavko Vinčič after both clubs requested that a foreign official take charge of the match, KosovaPress reported.

Galatasaray said on the 'X' platform that Mourinho "has repeatedly issued derogatory statements towards the Turkish people" since taking over as coach in the league.

"Today, his discourse has escalated beyond merely immoral comments into unequivocally inhumane rhetoric," the club said.

"We officially declare our intention to initiate criminal proceedings in relation to the racist statements made by Jose Mourinho, and accordingly we will file official complaints with UEFA and FIFA."

Former Chelsea, Inter, Porto, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur manager Mourinho has previously been fined and suspended for his comments about Turkish match officials. The Portuguese was again critical of the Turkish referees in a post-match press conference.
