French President Emmanuel Macron today urged Russia to accept the US-backed 30-day ceasefire proposal in Ukraine.

In a post on the X platform, following discussions with Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, he reiterated the need to stop "atrocities" and "declarations of postponement."

"Russia must now accept the US-Ukraine proposal for a 30-day ceasefire. Russian aggression in Ukraine must end. Tomorrow we will continue to work on strengthening support for Ukraine and for a solid and lasting peace, in a video conference with Starmer, Zelensky and other partners," Macron wrote, reports KosovaPress.

Ukraine has backed the ceasefire proposal with Russia, agreed after talks with US officials in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, earlier this week, but Vladimir Putin, however, said he supports a ceasefire in principle but wants the root causes of the conflict to be addressed.
