French President Emmanuel Macron today welcomed the news of the fall of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, saying his country remains committed to security in the Middle East.

"A barbaric state has fallen. Finally. I pay tribute to the Syrian people, their courage and patience. In this moment of uncertainty, I wish them peace, freedom and unity," Macron said in a post on X.

"France will remain committed to the security of everyone in the Middle East," he added.
