The Ministry of Industry and Kosovo Customs have signed today a memorandum of understanding, which guarantees that laboratory tests will be carried out without any financial burden on the MINT budget or businesses, ensuring transparency and integrity in this process and improving quality control standards.
Since the decision of acting minister Rozeta Hajdari, Kosovo Customs has taken over the conduct of laboratory testing to guarantee the conformity of petroleum products imported into Kosovo, and that by switching from private laboratories to state laboratories, 1.1 million euros have been saved.
Furthermore, quality control for motor and hydraulic oils has been launched for the first time since November 2021. The Kosovo Customs Laboratory has tested 910 oil samples, of which 78 did not meet standards and were banned from entering the market.
MINT recalls that an audit of four private operators licensed to mix fuels and heating oils was conducted, where after the inspections, Kosovo Customs found that the operators were not respecting the supervision measures, after which the ministry decided to revoke the licenses.
As a result, based on market demands and increased oversight, we have prevented tax evasion that could potentially occur through these operators, saving the Kosovo budget by about 3.5 million euros per year, the statement said. With the further strengthening of the state laboratory, MINT says that an independent and reliable testing system will be ensured that serves the needs of the market and citizens, increasing product quality, consumer protection and economic efficiency, it reports.
