Marko Abramovic, who is suspected of war crimes committed during the war in Kosovo, has been arrested in Montenegro.

Abramovic is awaiting a decision on extradition to Kosovo from Montenegrin authorities, lawyer Arbër Jashari has announced.

"We hope that the Montenegrin courts will rule fairly and impartially and make a decision for him to be handed over to the Kosovo authorities. We hope that there will be no political influences that could hinder his extradition, as has happened in several other cases in the past," Jashari wrote.

According to media reports, Marko Abramovic was arrested on January 15, 2025.

He is accused of participating in the Meja Massacre.

The execution of 370 civilians by the Serbian paramilitary army constitutes the largest massacre in the Kosovo war, during the years 1998-1999.

On April 27, 1999, Serbian paramilitary forces surrounded “Reke e Keqe” and “Lugu e Carragojës” in the vicinity of Gjakova. Within a few hours, the most macabre execution and the largest massacre of the Kosovo war, during the years 1998-1999, was carried out.

The Memorial Center - April 27th - was built for the martyrs who fell in this massacre in the Field of Sorrow in the village of Meje, Gjakova.
