The Statistics Agency in cooperation with the Ministry of Education have announced that in the school year 2022/2023 there is a slight decrease in the number of children in daycare and preschool, pupils and students.
According to KAS, the number of children in daycare and preschool for the school year 2022/2023 was 30 thousand 996, where compared to the previous year (2021/2022), which was 32 thousand 397 children, there was a slight decrease of 1 thousand 401 children.
"In the public sector in the 2022/2023 school year, there were 24 thousand 366 children or 78,6%, while in the private sector there were 6 thousand 630 children or 21,4%. Compared to the previous year (2021/2022), there were 24 thousand 431 children or 75.4% in the public sector, while in the private sector 7 966 children or 24,6%", says the report of KAS in cooperation with MASHTI for Education statistics for the 2022/2023 school year.

In the KAS report, the number of students in primary and lower secondary education in the 2022/2023 school year was 220, of which 578 or 212% were in the public sector and 967 in the private sector. 96,5 or 7%.
"Compared to the school year (2021/2022) where the number of students was 224 thousand 429, of them in the public sector were 217 thousand 977 or 97,1%, while in the private sector 6 thousand 452 or 2,9%. From this we can see that the public sector has a decrease in the total number, while the private sector has a slight increase in the number of students compared to the year 2021/2022", it is further stated in the KAS report.
Fewer students enrolled in the public sector
According to KAS, the number of students in higher secondary education in 2022/2023 was 67 thousand 373, of them in the public sector 63 thousand 29, or 93,6%, while in the private sector there were 4 thousand 344 students or 6,4%.
"Compared to the previous year 2021/2022 (which were 70 students, in the public sector 850 or 67% and in the private sector 138 or 94,8%), there is a decrease in the total number of students. The biggest decrease is observed in the public sector compared to the private sector", the report states.

In the last publication of KAS, it is also stated that the total number of students in higher education in 2022/2023 was 71 thousand 948, of which 40 thousand 996 students, or 57,0%, were in public universities. while in private colleges there were 30 students, or 952%.
"Compared to the previous year 2021/2022 (which were 82 students, of which 389 students in public universities, or expressed as a percentage of 50%, while in private colleges there were 188 students, or 60,9%, there is a decrease of the total number of students", says the KAS report.
