The Independent Media Commission, in cooperation with the OSCE Mission in Kosovo, has organized a round table with representatives of institutions, media and civil society organizations about the obligations, responsibilities and challenges of the media during the elections. There, the media were asked to be balanced and give equal space to all political entities certified for the February 9 elections.

The Chairman of the Independent Media Commission, Jeton Mehmeti, said that the Law on Elections requires the media to present all certified political entities in a fair and impartial manner.

Regarding this, he said that the KMP has drawn up a new regulation, which enables the media to have easier and clearer obligations during the election campaign.

"The law requires the media to ensure that all certified political entities are represented in a fair and impartial manner in broadcasts during election campaigns. The KMP oversees the implementation of this legal obligation, requesting that it issue a guide that ensures equal and non-discriminatory conditions for access to advertising time, the disclosure of the price of advertising space that is made available to political parties... The KMP has initiated the drafting of a new regulation for media conduct during the election campaign. The purpose of this regulation is to initially summarize all legal provisions in one place, so that the media have an easier and clearer understanding of their obligations during the election campaign. The second goal is to establish specifications for the obligations that have been left under the competence of the KMP and with special emphasis on setting the limit, the amount of time that the broadcaster can sell to each political entity", he said.

Meanwhile, the director of the department for democracy in the OSCE, Pascale Roussy, said that it is imperative that during the February 9 election campaign there is a balanced media coverage for all political subjects.

Part of this table was the chairman of the CEC, Kreshnik Radoniqi, who said that this institution for the first time will monitor the organization of meetings of political parties, for election campaign and advertising activities.

On the other hand, the Commissioner for Information and Privacy, Krenare Sogojeva, said that during the election campaign it is important to respect citizens' privacy.

The election campaign for the February 9, 2025 elections will begin on January 11./KosovaPress/
